Why Treat Your Lawn?

One of the hardest parts about looking after a lawn is keeping the grass looking green and healthy, as well as keeping the moss and weeds out.
It doesn`t seem to matter how often I used weedkiller, before long more would appear, and the whole process starts again.
I`ve been considering hiring a lawn treatment service to call to my home several times in a year and do what`s necessary to keep my grass looking good. I`m probably spending as much on fertilizers and weedkillers doing it myself as I would be just employing someone to do it for me, and it`d be less time consuming of course.
There are tons of companies a lawn treatment service. So, wherever you live, the probability is that there will be one who services the area you live in, perhaps there are even several firms to choose from.
Organic Lawn Care Information
With some lawn treatment specialists you can choose the level of service you require. Some people for instance might not want their lawns fertilized, but do want the weeds, moss and pests kept to a minimum. On the other hand, some people like the idea of having good looking thick layer of grass, but prefer to do their own weeding.
A good lawn treatment service will use a spring treatment fertilizer which works in low soil temperatures yet avoids an uncontrolled flush of growth.
An early summer treatment encourages deep green thick turf.
With a late summer treatment the lawn treatment service will concentrate on more troublesome lawn weeds and investigate for possible disease.
Finally, the autumn treatment addresses seasonal lawn problems including moss-control.
Advice is often available on lawn aeration, as soil can easily become compacted from heavy use such as mowing, walking, playing games etc. This can develop into a problem for any lawn but especially on heavy loam and clay soils.
Lawn aeration would be used to loosen the soil. When nutrients, water and oxygen can penetrate, this allows for stronger root growth.
If drainage is poor the soil often becomes compacted and low in nutrients. Treatment and moss removal by lawn scarification will be required in most instances.
Make sure you rake out any thatch if you can do so. Thatch is often hidden from view, but is usually made up of grass stems, roots, debris, and clippings that don`t go anywhere but stay on the ground and acculumate over time.
Eliminating moss from your lawn means it is necessary to get the conditions right by improving drainage and altering the conditions that moss needs to develop.
Many fungal diseases use the moisture on the leaves of grass plants to produce and move spores. Avoid watering just before dark as water tends to remain on the leaf blades for longer at night.
These are the types of things a lawn treatment service will advise on, and help out with, as part of their (paid) service.
Don`t Stress!
Like humans, stress attracts disease, or ill-health.
When the weather is hot and humid mow the grass less frequently. This reduces stress on the grass plants.
Don`t cut your grass too short, as again this can be stressful to grass. If you use a blunt mower blade you risk shredding the tops of the grass leaves.
Overhanging trees can cause problems too, as they shut out light, and even air access. So, prune back branches if your lawn is showing signs of poor health. This will help reduce incidences of turf disease.
Whether you feel using a lawn treatment service is value for money is an individual choice, but from my point of view I think that it`s going to be worth it to keep my grass in tip-top condition all year round.
